GIR Fleet Fuel Management

Combe 90 supplies and supports GIR fuel management systems in South Africa as a formal GIR partner. GIR is a French manufacturer that has built fuel management systems for more than 35 years. It has more than 15 000 active terminals in over 45 countries.

GIR identifies each driver and vehicle at the pump by code, RFID fob or card, magstripe card or smartphone. It checks that the vehicle is authorised before any fuel is dispensed. Each terminal holds up to 50 000 vehicles, 50 000 drivers and 2 500 offline transactions, so the controls keep working when the connection drops.

The terminals work with any commercial fuel dispenser and handle 1 to 16 hoses fuelling at the same time. Every transaction goes into central reporting, where you can track consumption and reconcile tank levels.

02 — Terminals and enclosures

GIR Hardware

GIR hardware comes in three formats: a forecourt terminal, a wall-mounted enclosure, or a unit built into the dispenser. The image below shows the in-dispenser, k-Box and i-Box options side by side.

GIR TIP Terminal

The GIR TIP forecourt terminal identifies drivers and vehicles by code, RFID fob or card, magstripe card, an existing RFID card or smartphone. It stores records for 50 000 vehicles, 50 000 drivers and 2 500 offline transactions. Fuelling stays controlled even if communications drop for a while.

A single terminal controls from 1 to 16 hoses with simultaneous fuelling and communicates through Ethernet Cat 5, Wi-Fi, cellular or USB flash drive. It operates from -20 °C to +55 °C and can be powered by 120–240 Vac, 50–60 Hz, 1.5 A or 12–15 Vdc, 1 A.

It comes in three housings to suit the installation. They range from a 190 × 270 × 42 mm front-panel mount weighing 4 kg to a 1500 × 350 × 200 mm stainless steel pedestal weighing 32 kg.

GIR i-Box

The GIR i-Box puts the fuel management hardware in a wall-mounted enclosure measuring 400 × 400 × 157 mm and weighing 12 kg. It is also used on mines and for lubricant management.

GIR k-Box

The GIR k-Box fits inside the dispenser itself. It is a cost-effective choice for multi-island sites where several pumps need driver identification and transaction capture.

03 — Management software

GIR Software: W150 and W250

GIR W150 and W250 run in the cloud as software as a service, or on premises on Windows. Users can reach either one through any web browser or the free iOS and Android app.

Both include real-time transaction logging, odometer and engine-hours tracking, tank inventory, bar and pie chart reports, tank gauge reconciliation, one-click spreadsheet export and email notifications. Telematics integration captures odometer readings automatically.

04 — Driver and vehicle identification

GIR Mobile ID

GIR Mobile ID uses the driver's smartphone for identification at the pump. It links the driver and the vehicle to each fuelling transaction as the fuel is dispensed.

There is no physical tag or card to issue and manage for every driver. Each transaction is still linked to a driver and a vehicle in GIR.

05 — Delivery and support

Working with Combe 90

Combe 90 supplies, installs and supports GIR systems in South Africa. We are a 100% black-owned, BBBEE level 1 business with 100% procurement recognition. Since 2015 we have worked as telemetry, fuel and inventory management specialists for the water and petroleum sectors across Africa.

GIR works alongside our tank gauging and telemetry systems. That puts controlled fuel dispensing, tank data and remote monitoring in one place.
